Christian Adoption Agencies, Adopting Children

Things To Know Before Adopting A Child

Posted in General by admin on the February 17th, 2010

There are so many things you need to know before adopting a child. Do you want a domestic or international adoption? What paper work do you need? How much will everything cost…..

Things To Know Before Adopting A Child

First, know the truth about agency adoptions. These can occur domestically in the United States or your other Western home country, or they can happen in international adoption as well. Agency adoptions occur through a local public agency, or via a licensed private agency.

These Christian adoption agencies differ significantly from independent adoptions, so it’s essential to know these differences. Independent adoptions occur usually without an adoption agency, sometimes when the prospective parents connect with the biological mother and agree to the infant adoption. In many of these cases, attorneys act as the go-between, but in some international adoptions, such as in China and Guatemala, the prospective parents do much of the legwork themselves.

Each case of child adoption is unique-most importantly, because adoptions vary depending on the laws of the state where the adoption is taking place, or the country. Different states and countries, for instance, may require an attorney as an intermediary, while others may require strictly adoption agency involvement in the process. Know the laws of your state, or country. If you plan to adopt across state lines, know both states’ policies toward adoption.

When you are fully informed about your local or international requirements, weigh all of the available options, and the risks for each one. For example, agency adoptions, depending on where you’re adopting, may be the safest because an adoption agency provides oversight and protection against fraud. On the other hand, having a facilitator or outside individual act as a go-between provides almost no safety net, especially in an international adoption, where even state and federal laws can’t protect you.

With international adoptions, though, state and federal laws can stop you-an important thing to remember There are federal laws that regulate international adoption. These mainly are in place to protect the child, so be sure that you are familiar with them.

As the sixth rule to know for adoptions, it makes sense then to be familiar with the laws of the foreign country in which you are adopting. Just as the U.S. government has rules that need to be adhered to, so will a China, a Guatemala, or a Vietnam. China, for instance, now limits single-parent adoptions and only allows adoption agencies that have follow-up policies. And the Marshall Islands no longer allows international adoption at all.

And the seventh, and probably most important, tip is to never lose sight of why you’re adopting. The process of child adoption can be so tough that, sometimes, prospective parents get desperate, dispirited, and even drastic. Don’t. Keep in mind your dream of a family, of becoming a loving parent to a needy child. And never lose sight, or hope, during the long process of adoption.

The Pros And Cons Of Adoption

Posted in General by admin on the February 16th, 2010

Id doesn’t matter if you decide for domestic or international adoption there are a lot of things to consider before deciding to adopt a child.

The Pros And Cons Of Adoption

Adoptions are either international adoption or domestic adoption. So what are the pros and cons of adoption? Regardless of which type you choose, the pros and cons of adopting a child are obvious, however, neither is better or worst than the other. It will basically all depend on you, the adopting family and what your preference is.

Domestic Adoption

When the birth mother, child and adoptive parents all live in the same country it is a domestic adoption and there may be some openness, depending on the birth parents.

Pros of Domestic Adoption

* It is more affordable due to reduced costs on travel and additional paperwork, even nonexistent if done through foster care.

* There is a chance of getting a newborn; you may be matched up with a birth mom who has not yet given birth.

* You will receive more detailed and accurate information about the biological parents medical information

* Most of the leg work is done by the Christian adoption agencies representatives and/or case workers, you will not be required to spend as much time on the adoption process.

Cons of Domestic Adoption

*Requirements for domestic adoptions are quite strict and qualifications for adopting families are also high.

* The biological mother may change her mind or unexpectedly refuse to give her child up for adoption. I believe there is a restriction on when she can do this, but that is not enough of a safeguard for most hopeful parents.

This can cause delays in the process or the whole adoption may be terminated. Unfortunately, this occurs more often during the final stages of the adoption process just when the adopting family is expecting a child.

*There are fewer children available for domestic adoption, especially if the adoptive parents prefer a child from a minority group.

International Adoption

When the adoptive parents live in a different country than the birth parents it is referred to as an international adoption and there is little or no contact between the parents.

Pros of International Adoption

* There are plenty of children available for adoption in many countries, both healthy and special needs.

* The requirements and qualifications for international adoption are less str 1000 ict than other types of adoption; your chances of adopting are greater.

* You have a better chance at being eligible to adopt and once your home study is approved you can rest assured that you will have the child of your dreams.

* You don’t have to worry about whether the biological mother will change her mind. These children are most often orphaned. All you have to do is accept your referral of a child and before long they will be in your arms. (On average this process takes between 12-18 months)

Cons of International Adoption

* Be prepared for lots of red tape, delays as well as an increased potential for fraud. Some countries may not be politically stable, eg. you don’t need the government changing hands in the middle of your adoption process.

* Be prepared to travel to the country of your adoptive child. You may even be required to make more than one trip or stay for a few weeks at a time. You will need to learn the child’s culture and customs, maybe even their language

* You will not get a newborn because you will not be made aware of a child for adoption until after they are born. So by the time all the administrative hurdles are cleared and they are finally united with you and your family, they will likely be at least four to six months, maybe even a little older.

* Because the majority of these children have lived their first months or years in orphanages where the living conditions are less than decent, they may experience some developmental set backs.

This is not necessarily the case with all children and if they do have delays, chances are they will often rebound to the norm once they have a loving and supportive family to attend to their needs. Some people believe that, "Love doesn’t conquer all" but I say, "it certainly helps".

* There may be no record of the family medical history and this could make you feel uncomfortable. You could always turn to modern medical testing to help. You will however, receive the child’s medical history when you get your referral.

The pros and cons of adoption have the potential to discourage the adopting family in many ways. But with an open mind and heart, overcoming the dilemma of adoption will definitely prove to be worthwhile.

International Adoption Or Domestic Adoption

Posted in General by admin on the February 15th, 2010

Many couples prefer to adopt a child internationally simple because they are afraid that some day a birth mother might come and claim back their child. There are some Christian adoption agencies that can help parents with paper work for international adoption.

International Adoption Or Domestic Adoption

International adoption has been undergoing many significant changes. On April 1, 2008, the United States ratified the Hague Convention, an international treaty designed to protect the best interests of children. There are now 78 member countries to this treaty. While the treaty stands for principles that all of us can certainly agree on such as ensuring integrity, ethics, licensing standards for adoption organizations and strict disallowance of child buying, the treaty has in my opinion also served to create obstacles to international adoption that have gone beyond issues of ethics and integrity
and have served to create great obstacles to finding permanent homes for orphaned children desperately in need of permanent homes around the world.

The United State’s recent ratification of the Hague Treaty greatly impact, in fact, this discussion regarding international versus domestic adoption. International adoption is, in my opinion, under systematic attack by powerful human rights organizations such as UNICEF resulting in severe restrictions and ultimately greatly reduced numbers of adoptions. Quotas or closures are not the only form of attack – implementation of adoption procedures so lengthy, cumbersome and costly that many Americans are beginning to re-evaluate their options and are reconsidering domestic adoption. International and domestic adoption options each offer distinct advantages and disadvantages, depending on the concerns, motivations and preferences of adoptive parents.

For some families, adopting a child from a developing nation where life and death could hang on an adoption decree is compelling and often the single reason for pursuing adoption. While adopting a child from a developing nation seems to be the most humanistic decision, one should not ignore the poverty and overwhelming odds that some here in America face.

For some families, adoption options in the U.S. are daunting, whether an adoption occurs internationally or domestically has bearing on the degree of openness that adoption can possess. Domestic adoptions vary widely in their degree of openness, depending on the preferences of the birth parents; however, international adoptions are more likely to be closed with little or no contact between 1000 birth and adoptive parents.

Medical information about the birth parent(s) of an adopted child can be of great concern to a family when facing future medical issues. In domestic adoption situations, agencies generally are able to provide more detailed and accurate information about birth parents’ medical information than it can in an international adoption scenario in which there is often little or no information about a child’s birth parents and their personal and family medical histories.

Open adoption versus closed or semi-closed adoptions are an issue. Agencies handling domestic adoptions are better able to provide the option of an open or semi-open adoption than are international agencies. Whether this is a benefit or a deficit depends on the preferences of the adopting parents.

The age of the child at the time of adoption and involvement in the pregnancy can be a cirtical issue for some paretns. Certainly a distinct advantage of domestic adoption is that it offers the opportunity to participate in a newborn or young infant adoption. In domestic adoption situations, parents are typically matched with a pregnant woman who has not yet given birth. In contrast, when dealing with international adoption, parents are matched after the birth of a child and in many instances, after a waiting period of 6 months – 1 year during which time the child is on a registry for possible adoption by a family in the child’s country. If a family pursues an international adoption of an infant, the child will most likely be several months old at best, and possibly over a year old or more, before all administrative hurdles are cleared and the child is permitted to travel to its adoptive home.

Financial issues and concomitant risks are a critical consideration to parents weighing their options. While adoptive families choosing either international or domestic adoption face the possibility of not being able to complete the adoption of a particular child, often involving a birth parent or other family member changing their minds, families adopting internationally with an ethical agency rarely risk losing the adoption monies paid for the services as most agencies will refer another child at no additional expense. In domestic scenarios, expenses paid towards birth mother living expenses will be forfeited if she later changes her mind.

Documentation and procedural requirements certainly figure in the equation. When it comes to domestic adoption, many families balk at the prospect of preparing birth mother introductory letters and photo albums feeling that they are competing with other families or begging for a birth mother to choose them. In international adoption, birth mothers don’t choose adoptive families; however, many countries impose rigorous document submission requirements and restrictions that families cannot meet. In some instances, foreign countries may impose restrictions after the adoption process has begun and families are suddenly not qualified to adopt and must choose another country, often involving additional expenses and creating delays in the overall process. While the process and waiting times for referral may seem more predictable for international adoption than for domestic adoption, changes in policy, procedure, closures, moratoria are all regular occurrences in international adoption.

Health and medical issues is tantamount to this decision as well. Families adopting internationally must prepare themselves for particular medical, emotional, learning, and behavioral issues that their adopted children, who have often spent their entire lives in an institutionalized settings, often face. Adoption blogs, support groups, and online groups are rife with stories of families facing extremely difficult and challenging situations.

Lastly, international travel, sometimes lengthy, can prove disruptive to work and family life, particularly when families have other children they must leave at home, and very challenging for some people who 1000 have not traveled outside of their country very often.

Deciding whether to pursue international or domestic adoption necessitates careful examination of the many pluses and minuses of each option. Selecting an agency that can offer guidance, expertise, counseling and honest answers to the advantages and disadvantages of the program they offer can be the single most important decision that an adoptive parent makes on this extraordinary journey.

Adoption Options

Posted in General by admin on the February 14th, 2010

When you are looking to adopt a child it should be for one reason only, to love that child. To offer him or her everything in your power to be happy.

Adoption Options

Are you looking to adopt a child? Then you should understand all aspects before making this important decision. A multitude of resources are available. Your local library is an excellent tool for researching adoption. In addition, the Internet is a fabulous tool not only for providing information about adoption, but also to meet other individuals who have adopted or are hoping to adopt. Many opportunities exist in your community to meet with other adoptive parents. This process is an emotional one, and having a support group of people who know what you are experiencing is an important tool in helping you succeed in this process.

Before you decide on adopting a child, you must first understand the process. Adoption involves three different entities: the birth parent(s), the adoptive parent(s), and most importantly, the child. In some instances, if the birth parents are either unknown or deceased, the state or government takes the place of this entity. Any child under the age of 18 is available for adoption. A common myth is that only babies or young children are adoptable. This is completely false, as many older children await a loving family to call their own. In additional to being a emotional process, adoption is a legal process, and all items must be taken care of to ensure the legality of the adoption. A number of lawyers and firms deal specifically with adoptive law, so all who are interested in adopting are strongly encouraged to seek the advice of these professionals.

When seriously considering adoption, you should be aware of all the options available. There are two main types of adoptions you should consider: domestic adoptions and inter-country adoptions. Domestic adoptions take place within the country are currently residing. There are many Christian adoption agencies available to help you adopting a child in your country of residence, and this is by far the most widely used option for adoption. In some cases, the child is adopted before the mother has given birth. In these cases, the child is immediately removed from the birth parent(s) upon birth and given over to the adoptive parents. In other cases, a child is available for adoption once the parent terminates his 1000 or her parental right. This termination can be either willing or unwilling. If the termination of parental rights is unwilling, a state agency has deemed the parent unfit and this decision has been decided by a court of law. In cases where the child does not have a parent or guardian, he or she is considered ward of the state and the adoption will be decided using the laws of that particular state.

Inter-country adoptions are when children are adopted outside of your country of residence. These adoptions are often more labor-intensive and can take longer since you must meet all requirements set forth by two countries – the child’s country and your own. Similarly, the cost of inter-country adoptions is usually greater than domestic adoptions and can include several trips to the child’s country. It is strongly suggested you deal with an agency or attorney to facilitate inter-country adoptions, since there are more laws and regulations that must be met. For example, in order for a child to immigrate to the United States, the child must be considered an orphan. This may or may not be the case literally, but if the parental rights were terminated (either willingly or not), the child is considered an orphan and is considered adoptable. Depending on the country you choose to adopt from, the rules, cost, and waiting will all differ. Some countries are more equipped to do inter-country adoption than others. Similarly, some countries will be able to give potential adoptive parents an estimated time frame for the adoption, so the parents can plan accordingly.

However you choose to adopt, research and education is the key. The more you know and understand the process, the more apt you will be to anticipate any problems, and the more successful you will be in your goal – to bring a child into your home. Are You Looking To Adopt A Child

There are so many babies waiting to be adopted to get the second chance in life and there are so many couples trying to adopt children.

Are You Looking To Adopt A Child

I felt very sad when I found out that my best friend and her husband discovered that it was impossible for them to have children. My best friend only became aware that she had some medical issues when she decided to try to start a family. She was devastated at this unfortunate discovery. I can imagine how hard it is to be told that I can’t have children because I cannot imagine my life without my daughter. They decided that the best thing they can do was to adopt a child, after a few depressing months.

They told me that they had a great deal of concerns about looking to adopt a child from our own country. This is probably due to the horror stories about the birth parents who return to take their child back years later. Those instances do exist, although they are very rare. They don’t even want to think about dealing with those situations.

They attended some seminars about international adoptions and met with an Christian adoption agencies to prepare for the possible adoption. It is not as easy to adopt a child from another country as one would imagine. For instance, it can end up costing even more money than an adoption in the US. There are also a few more restrictions and concerns that you need to deal with if you want to adopt internationally.

My best friend’s husband’s company would give aid in costs of adopting a child in adoption fees that amounted to about $2,000. However, it would not be enough to cover the expensive costs and legal fees. That’s just the way it works, even if it doesn’t seem fair that adopting a child would cost so much money. In my opinion, giving a child a safe and loving home shouldn’t cost a small fortune.

They were looking into getting a home equity loan just to be able to adopt a child. Fortunately, the bank was willing to bend over backwards to get them that money, so they were able to begin the international adoption process. They learned about some of the strange requirements that some countries require for international adoption along the paths of their research. For instance, it turned out that China has some strict guidelines that they didn’t meet. That means, adopting a child from China was not an option for them.

They finally decided that they wanted to be foster parents first and hoped to adopt from that experience, after a year of research and exhaustion. The fees are almost nonexistent once you decide to adopt a child that wa 1000 s in foster care. The process is a lot less painless so they decided that this would be a good option. They managed to adopt a child through a foster program after about a year.

Costs Of Adopting A Child

Posted in General by admin on the February 12th, 2010

Sadly there are millions of children around th globe waiting to be adopted. And unfortunately like everything else adoption is also a question of money. The adoption cost might differ from couple of thousand to several ten thousands of dollars.

Costs Of Adopting A Child

Some of children lost their parents at an early age. Others are products of a broken marriage and no one would take them in. Some other children have indigent parents who cannot afford to raise them on their own. They are then brought to institutions so they may have a brighter future.

Foster care and other institutions can only take care of these children temporarily. Sooner or later they will be adopted. This means someone else will get them to take care of them for good. Their adopters are called the foster parents or foster families. The children can live with them after the process of adoption has been legalized in papers.

Considering baby adoption is a long process and is a big responsibility both foster child and foster family, foster care impose proper agreement and contract for the good of both side insuring the readiness of the child and its foster family, they even conducting proper counseling, home study and legal advices.

Most of foster care institutions around the world get a subsidy from the government concerning children assistance and welfare, these subsidies provided and enforce by The Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act to minimize financial constrain and abolish barriers in adopting child.

Adoption costs for some legitimate foster care center or agencies are free. The families who plan to adopt a child are qualified for federal or state settlement of once determined adoption costs like attorney fees, airfare when visiting foster kid, home study cost and medical assistance for waiting children.

For international adoption there are several ways to cut off the high cost of expenses like the taking grants and loans. There is what is called the non-recurring adoption expenses. This program is for those children with disabilities or needs medical assistance, military adoption benefits for military families who wish to adopt a child will have their reimbursement f 1000 rom their military command office or branch.

Taking in a child for adoption is a long and slow process. It takes several systems, persistence, few months or a year to complete and finalize adoption procedure. You will have to educate yourself about the whole procedure and judge yourself in the process if you could handle the lifelong responsibility attached to it.
Choose the right foster agency, complete home study or pre-placement assessment, talk to foster agency for the right child, pay a visit, and legalize adoption in court. There are laws concerning the legality of adoption includes some of the following rules and step by step procedures and mechanisms.
First is the Petition for Adoption. The adoptee must submit or filled up affidavit of parentage, officially permitted permission documents, home study, health and information background, legal risk declaration and child sustaining commitment.

Second is the Report on Proposed Adoption. The Christian adoption agencies will file and report the adoption by doing a background check on the foster family. They will ask about many personal information, assess the environment and will write a recommendation for the adoption to be finalized and push through.

There is also a law called Decree of Adoption. It makes the adoption legal. The court has the final decision and gives the adoptive family the legal documents and legal custody of foster child.

A birth certificate is also needed. The adopted child will be given a new release birth certificate conforming their new status, it also reflect the names of adoptive parents, and the new name of a child if changed. Foster care or adoption agency that had child supervision prior to the adoption was made will keep all the necessary and important documents of the child for security and confidentiality purposes.

Baby Adoption

Posted in General by admin on the February 11th, 2010

You can’t even imagine how many babies around the world are waiting for new home, new life. But it seems that our bureaucracy is still in the middle ages. The paper and legal work to adopt a baby takes for ever. Christian adoption agencies can help speed up the paper work necessary to adopt a baby.

Baby Adoption

The suffering of orphans vary from country to country, but even in the US, where conditions are as good as they get outside of Western Europe, less than 20% of those that age out of the foster care system are completely self-sufficient as young adults.

The conditions elsewhere are sad and sadder, and the need for families to take these children home is dire, in some cases a matter of life and death. The orphans in Sierra Leone bear pain and suffering that no human being should have to endure. Food, potable water, and healthcare are in short supply. The median age in Sierra Leone is 17. Due to war and shortages of food supply, many of these children won’t make it to that median age.

Children waiting for adoption in Sierra Leone.

The future looks bleak for even the average orphan. In Russia, 40% of the orphans who never find homes as children become homeless as adults, and 10% commit suicide after aging out of the system.

For those with special needs the future is even grimmer. Disabilities are not tolerated anywhere in the world as well as they are in the United States. Wheelchair ramps and accessible public bathrooms are just a couple of outward signs of how integrated our society is. In many countries, special needs orphans will never leave the institution. In Russia, they are considered incurable invalids and put in a sanatorium for life. Kimberly Reese described the situation in both Hungary and Bulgaria, ‘I saw NO special needs people ANYWHERE outside the orphanages.’

Susan Buchholz adopted from Vietnam twice. Both of her Vietnamese daughters are special needs children. The only people she saw outside the orphanage with disabilities were those peddling postcards to tourist.

She also witnessed many children begging on the streets. This image still haunts her. Poverty is a way of life in Vietnam. She describes bringing home her second daughter, Teresa. ‘Even at 14 months of age, she had only had formula and ‘rice soup’ which I imagine to be a kind of rice cereal. Thai, from International Mission of Hope, told us that Vietnamese families do no teach their children to feed themselves until they are 7 or 8 years old to limit their intake of food. He said the teachers in the younger grades also feed their students for the same reason.’

Bulgaria’s orphans suffer emotional neglect. Kimberly Reese adopted two children from Hungary and one from Bulgaria. ‘Ella’s orphanage in Bulgaria was awful. I can say that both of my Hungarian children were well cared for and came home very stable emotionally. My Bulgarian child was clearly mistreated. …she was like a wild animal. It was very sad.’

Nikki from Hungary, and Ella from Bolivia.Like Susan, Kimberly adopted special needs children. Kimberly’s oldest child, Nikki, is missing most of her left hand. Nikki was offered to Kimberly and her husband by the adoption agency and since they didn’t think her special need was a big deal, they accepted her. ‘Once we got Nikki home, we realized that these kids rarely ever get adopted in Europe– unless by Americans. Nikki is so wonderful. We requested special needs after that.’ Ella’s special needs were emotional. Their youngest, David, was adopted from Hungary and doesn’t have any hands. ‘Because both Nikki and David have upper limb deformities, Ella always wants to be just like them. Strange, isn’t it? She wants a hand like Nikki’s or arms like David’s. I have seen her try to eat or drink using her elbows like David.’

These disabilities are a part of a natural life to Susan’s and Kimberly’s families. Life is a joy with their beautiful children, and if anything the disabilities create laughter. ‘One of the funniest comments I remember was when we first brought Nikki home. My cousin had adopted two kids form the states and we were having a party to celebrate. We were at the pizza place and my little cousin said, ‘Kim, don’t panic! They have got to be here somewhere!’ He was so serious that I started to get concerned as he almost frantically looked around for something. I said, ‘what is it, baby?!’ He said, ‘I’m sure Nikki had them when she came in but she has dropped three of her fingers!’ It was a scream!’

Many parents choose international adoption just for this reason. They can offer a better– a much better– life to a child from an underprivileged country. They can see an angel where others have only seen an invalid. They can offer steak and chocolate cake to a child that has hungered for rice.

Hundreds of thousands of children are waiting for families to rescue them from coming of age in an orphanage. For most the wait is futile.

Sadder yet are the potential matches between orphans and families that go unpaired. There are thousands of families with the financial and emotional resources it takes to raise another child. They are willing and eager to care for and love a child as their own but unable to come up with the large adoption fees required upfront. The $20,000 price tag is a hard hurdle to overcome.

Many adopting families beg and borrow enough to cover these initial fees from families and friends. Those who are able to cash in their IRAs or take out a second mortgage are fortunate. Some run up credit card debt to cover adoption fees. Many give up and never consider adopting again.

The road to adoption is steep, but the rewards are tremendous. Imagine giving a child a warm bubble bath before bed. Now imagine that this is a brand new experience for your child. Warm bath water is a luxury many of these children never know.

Even if you are unable to adopt a child yourself you can still make a difference by donating to a children’s charity which offers adoption grants to families adopting older or special needs children.

Posted in General by admin on the February 10th, 2010

Child adoption is not as easy as you might think. First of all most people that want to adopt are mistaken that international adoption is far more expensive than domestic one. As a surprise let me tell you that both have similar costs. The only thing is that international adoption takes more time and more paper work.

Adoption Questions

If you are fully committed to the decision to adopt, then you already have the most essential factor to gaining custody of a child. To ease a process of adoption you can turn to Christian adoption agencies for help. Moreover, if you can provide for the basic needs of a child as well as give him a nurturing environment then you may adopt. Here are some factors that will help you know who is qualified to adopt:

- Single individuals who are 21 years old and above

- Married couples who are childless or who have other children

- The emotional and physical well-being of potential adoptive parents is also taken into consideration

* I am single, can I adopt?

Yes. Even though you are single you have the option to adopt if you wish, given that you are 21 years old and above.

Commitment is the essential factor that most agencies are looking for in adoptive parents. A caring environment is necessary to ensure that the adopted child will grow into a productive adult.

* Is a special needs adoption the right choice for me?

If you are the type of person who is patient, has ample time to give the needs of a special child as well as shower him with the love he needs, then adopting a child with special needs may be for you. Emotional stability is needed to hurdle the many trials you will face with the decision to adopt a child with special needs.

Additionally, being financially and physically strong can be helpful in overcoming the challenge of being an adoptive parent to a child with special needs.

* Should I do international or domestic adoption?

There are numerous factors for you to consider before jumping into the decision to choose either international or domestic adoption. Such factors are:

- Travel. Once you decide to adopt internationally, you are required to personally pick up the child from his or her country. Normally you are required to stay for a week. There are times that the length of stay for adoptive parents can be up to three weeks.

On the other hand, adopting a child within your state will not require you extensive and intercontinental travels.

- Expenses. Surveys show that international adoption is the most expensive type of adoption since there are many documents to prepare as well as fees to pay. On the other hand, opting for a domestic adoption is not as costly as international adoption. There are times when domestic adoption can be free of charge. Each case is individual.

- Adoption Training. It is recommended for domestic adoption to attend trainings and seminars before gaining custody of a child. While international adoptions do not normally have required training.

* What are some legal issues in adoption?

Legal issues in adoption differ from one state to another or from one country to another. It also depends on the type of adoption from which you will be choosing. Hence, if you plan to adopt, it is recommended that you research and be familiar with the existing laws and regulations on adoption in your area.

* How can the Internet help me in adopting a child?

The Internet is a good venue for you to adopt a child. Most adoption websites will help you get through the adoption process. Here are some common factors you may encounter via the Internet when adopting a child:

Child Adoption

Posted in General by admin on the February 9th, 2010

Process of adopting a child can be long and expensive. There is a lot of paper and legal work needed to be taken care of. Luckily there are some Christian adoption agencies that are willing to help parents looking to adopt a child.

Child Adoption

As we have mentioned, there are a number of reasons why people decide to adopt a child but child adoption is not for everyone and it is important to ask yourself some questions before you decide whether adopting a child is for you. Firstly, are you emotionally, physically and financially capable of taking care of a child? Are you able to copy with any issues which they child may have – such as issues over being adopted and not being with their birth family (feelings of rejection by the birth family, etc.)? If you have other children are they ready to accept a new sibling through the process of adopting a toddler?

In addition, if you are an older adoptive parent or have any health issues which affect your daily life then you may want to discuss the possibility of adoption to find out whether you would be able to cope with your health problems as well as a child.

Adopting a child, however, can be a wonderful experience for people who are able to answer the above questions honestly and still feel that they would really like and be able to cope with another child. You are now able to love another child (perhaps your first) and are able to provide that child with a better future. So how do you go about it, if you have decided to adopt a child?

The child adoption process varies depending on the type of adoption you are going for as well as your home country and/or the country where you will be adopting a child from. In general though you need to begin by asking yourself what type of adoption you are going to go for – domestic or international? Older child or infant adoption?

Once you have decided on the type of adoption the next thing is to find an adoption agency. There are a number of websites on the internet that have listings of child adoption agencies for both domestic and international adoption. Phone or visit a couple of these agencies and if possible attend any orientation courses they may be running.

Once you have chosen your agency, filled in the application form and paid the required fee, your counselor or social worker will guide you through the whole child adoption procedure. This will include a number of interviews, home studies, and medical and criminal record checks. The length of this process will depend on the type of adoption you have chosen and your counselor will be able to give you more information about this.

In conclusion, child adoption is not for everyone and before deciding to adopt it is important that you honestly answer some questions about your ability to look after this child. If you do decide to adopt however it can be a wonderful experience and truly benefit all involved. If you decide to adopt you should start by deciding what kind of adoption you want to go for and then finding an adoption agency that will guide you through the whole child adoption procedure. This process can take anything from a number of months to a number of years and includes paperwork, home studies and interviews. Your adoption agency will be able to help you through this whole process.

Adopting A Toddler

Posted in General by admin on the February 8th, 2010

Adopting a toddler can be very rewarding, however, it’s not always a box of chocolates. Did you know that at least half of all adoptive parents try to adopt a toddler for one reason or another?

Some think that they would not want to miss out on witnessing the imaginative nature of a toddler. For others, it is their intention to adopt an infant, but due to unexpected delays in the adoption process (especially international adoptions), the baby will grow up and become a toddler by the time the adoption is final.

If you are adopting a toddler you have several options. You can adopt a child internationally or domestically. Between these two types of adoptions you can choose either a public or a private adoption agency to work with.

The prices will differ drastically between private and public agencies. If you adopt domestically and go with a public adoption agency, your costs will be very little, whereas, a private adoption can reach as high as $30,000!

It’s really up to you as to the type of toddler adoption option you will choose. Think about what you can afford, and consider the requirements of the adoption agency you pick.

You will find that adopting a toddler is a much more pleasurable experience if you can prepare the child during the adoption process. For example, you could send the toddler pictures or better still, you could see about arranging to have visits with them as frequently as possible before you bring them home with you permanently.

You may think you are prepared, however, for the toddler the transition will be extra difficult. Expect to be severely tested, take into account, of course, whether they have a scarred past.

Learn as much as possible about the child prior to adopting them. Some parents have adopted severely abused children, only to undergo some pretty traumatic experiences. They later discovered that their expectations of warm hugs and tiny welcoming hands weren’t exactly met.

Months of unexpected fits of anger and temper tantrums from the child have shocked them. They are not taking into account that this is just how toddlers act on occasion and some much more often than others. Getting use to change and a new environment is especially difficult for them.

As a potential adoptive parent for an adopted toddler, you will be required to have a lot of time and patience to build an attachment and relationship with the child.

You can take a leave from work so that you can devote your time fully as a parent to this toddler. You should be elegible for adoption leave (similar to maternity leave).

You may also need to make some changes personally. For example, you will want to be physically fit enough to meet the demands of this new endeavor. Toddlers do not usually adjust easily, they are quite a bundle of energy, and so you must be able to have the stamina and endurance to stay strong and firm in order to establish an attachment with the child as well as authority.

It would probably be a good idea to get together with other parents who have adopted toddlers, so that they can share some of their experiences with you. Receiving support from others can be helpful in dealing with the transition phase more effectively.
